This is a thread about EDH/Commander, a 100-card singleton format that is currently the most popular way to play the game.

>Statistically see what everyone else puts in their commander decks based on what is posted to the internet.

>Find out what lands you can add to your deck, sorted by category, based on a chosen color identity.

>Deck List Site: You can search for decks that other people have made. Authors often have comments that explain their deck strategy and card choices.

>On a distant, ocean-covered plane where monstrous creatures rule the seas, one in particular stands out in terms of temper and capriciousness: Aesi, an ancient sea serpent who claims the waters and all adjacent land masses of the Gyre Strait as its domain. Fickle and unpredictable, Aesi has little patience for trespassers, aquatic or otherwise. The only way to appease Aesi is to give offerings and tribute, but even that's not a sure solution: it's been known to take the offerings and attack anyways if it feels like it.

Which do you think is better /edhg/-uys, Nettle Drone or Brimstone trebuchet?

For context. I have a Rakdos, lord of riots Artifacts deck, and I am currently running nettle drone for a damage output to be able to cast rakdos turn 4 without attacking. I have mystic forge in the deck, and with the drone being devoid, is castable off of it.

Here's where the problem arises. I am also running The Abyss. If i play the abyss, im going to eventually have to destroy the nettle drone, but I don't run into that same problem with the trebuchet. Trebuchet's untap trigger will never activate, while almost all the creatures in the deck are colorless, so the drone's will activate a lot.

Should i run the nettle drone for potential nut plays, or the trebuchet for the safety of an artifact creature?

Graveyard/Reanimator seems like your only real option in golgari if you don't want overlap with your other decks. The "tribute" style demons that make you sac stuff on upkeep will work really well with Szat, and Gilanra can help you turbo out something like ever after early and keep the deck churning by giving cantrips to all your demons and fatties in the lategame. Sounds kinda neat.

Nettle Drone. The only time you run into a problem with Nettle Drone is if you have a single specific card in your deck also on the field and no other creatures. That's one very specific scenario. Meanwhile, the Nettle Drone will also dodge All Is Dust which is a solid boardwipe for you to be running if most of your creatures are colorless, while the Trebuchet will get incidentally hit by any "destroy all artifacts" effects.

Sick. To answer your question though, I'd say neither. Why wait on a 3 or 4 mana creature to have to make it all the way around the table when your pal Flame Jab can enable rakdos for the rest of the game?

If you pressed me to answer between the original two, I'd go with nettle drone because he's both a better creature and cheaper to cast. Just because you have the abyss doesn't make him a bad pinger; remember, the strength of symmetrical effects in magic is that you get to choose when you cast them. hope that helps.

Late to the party here, but what are your general thoughts on the ZNR MDFCs? In particular the unexciting ones, like Sejiri Shelter or Kazandu Mammoth.

I wasn't too impressed with them at first, but now I'm starting to think they'll be staples in the long run. The way I feel is that they pad out your land count - i.e. if you normally only have 36 lands in your deck, you can use these to go up to 38 or 40. That way you're less likely to miss a land drop but, if you flood out, you get a spell instead. It just feels like decks are a bit more consistent this way.

It's a nice theory, but it still needs to be a spell that you actually want to cast. Too many of them aren't.
Besides, if you build your deck correctly, you shouldn't encounter screw that often at 35-36 lands.

i have no restraint when it comes to running 35 lands or more. I keep my deck at 30 lands atm and if any of those modal lands were worth it I would probably go for the concept. There are two ways to play out that scenario and the Sakashima player picked the wrong one to begin with.
Option one
>Choose Akroma
>All your creatures, including the Sakashimakroma, become exact copies of Akroma
>Sakashimakroma no longer has the Mirror Gallery effect, because Sakashima's Will overrode its copy ability and just turned it into vanilla Akroma
>Everything dies to the Legend rule

Option two
>Choose Sakashimakroma
>Everything becomes Sakashimakroma with the Mirror Gallery ability
>Nothing dies

It sounds like someone fucked up anyway, because Sakashima's Will doesn't target, you choose the creature to copy as it resolves. So killing Sakashima in response could easily just be remedied by choosing any nonlegendary creature instead, preserving the board.

Part of the appeal of boros for me is how well the two colors synergize if you're willing to get creative. People say white and red suck at drawing cards and ramping, but what they do well is red has wheel effects and white is good at bringing things back from the graveyard. A well timed wheel of fortune can refill your whole hand and also you'll have cards like bag of holding and reya dawnbringer, etc. which give you back the cards you just discarded.
